New Member Appointed to Von Braun Center Board of Control 2020

Huntsville, Ala. – The Von Braun Center (VBC) has announced the addition of DeMarco McClain as the newest member of the Von Braun Center Board of Control. Mr. McClain was appointed by the Huntsville City Council and began his post on August 28, 2020.

The Von Braun Center Board of Control is charged with custody of and authorized to maintain, control, operate, and manage the Von Braun Center.

“We are excited and privileged to have Mr. McClain serve on the Board of Control,” said VBC Executive Director Steve Maples. “We know that his talent and knowledge will serve the Von Braun Center well as we work to continue moving our venue and Huntsville forward.”

DeMarco McClain is a Senior Vice President, Sales Officer with Bank Independent. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Auburn University Montgomery in 2002 and his MBA from Troy University in 2014. He graduated from the University of South Alabama’s Banking School in 2018 and is active with the Alabama Bankers Association.

An alumnus of Leadership Huntsville Class 14, Mr. McClain remains an active volunteer for Leadership Greater Huntsville’s Connect Public Safety Day, and is currently on the City’s Public Building Authority (PBA) providing oversight for the construction of the City’s amphitheater at MidCity.

“As a commercial Banker with over 20 years of experience, I feel confident utilizing my skills and experience to assist in the management and oversight of the VBC,” remarked McClain. “I take this opportunity seriously and look forward to being a good steward of the trust granted to me by the City Council and our residents. The PBA has given me unique perspective relative to Huntsville City government and I will consider those lessons as I engage with the VBC Board and its future activities.”

Mr. McClain and his wife, Clarissa, reside in Huntsville (District 2) with their son Dylan. In his personal time, McClain is very active in the Huntsville community and currently serves as the treasurer on the Board of Directors for Christian Women’s Job Corp Madison County and previously served as president. He also previously served as a board member for Christmas Charities Year-Round. McClain’s involvement on the board for the non-profit Causeway led to the initial concept and implementation of the “One Table” community event, which brings people from all different backgrounds together to enjoy a meal. He recently devoted time to the Village of Promise’s “One Table” Committee. Additionally, he volunteers for the Willowbrook Baptist Church Teller and Oil-Change Ministries. He is an advocate of Bank Independent’s Helping Hands initiatives, which provides focused support to schools, shelters, and families in the North Alabama community.
